Pet Pustule Symptom Guide | What to Watch For and When to Seek Care
Understand possible causes of Pustule and what to observe at home
Pustules usually indicate localized suppurative skin inflammation or follicular reaction. Closely observe lesion changes and reassess progression over several days.
What this symptom means clinically
A Pustule is an accumulation of purulent material in the superficial skin or hair follicle, composed mainly of neutrophils, necrotic tissue, and cellular debris. It usually forms from a localized inflammatory response, often with folliculitis or a damaged skin barrier. It appears as a raised sac-like lesion and may drain pus after rupture, causing surrounding skin reaction.
🐱 In cats
In cats, Pustules are often seen on the face or chin or after bites, scratches, or sebaceous-gland problems. Cats may show subtle changes that require careful observation.
🐶 In dogs
In dogs, Pustules commonly result from bacterial folliculitis, moisture, or debris in skin folds, and their distribution often relates to breed, environment, and friction areas.
