What this symptom means clinically

A papule is a small, solid raised lesion on the skin surface, usually representing a localized structural change in the epidermis or dermis. Pathologically, it may result from local inflammatory-cell infiltration, vascular reaction, or abnormal keratinization, appearing as a difference in color, texture, or height. Clinically, it reflects a local skin-tissue response to irritation or injury.

🐱 In cats

Papules in cats are often associated with allergic, parasitic, or immune-related lesions and may be harder to detect early beneath the coat.

🐶 In dogs

Papules in dogs may be triggered by external parasites, skin infection, or contact irritation. Breed-related skin thickness affects how they look and feel.
