Tooth Pain Symptom Guide for Pets | Observation Points and When to Seek Care
Understand possible causes of Tooth Pain and home observation points
Tooth pain means a painful source in the mouth or teeth. Observe eating and oral status and seek evaluation promptly if pain persists or affects eating.
What this symptom means clinically
Tooth pain occurs when receptors in the tooth or supporting tissues, such as pulp or periodontal tissue, are activated by irritation or damage and carried through the trigeminal nerve. Infection, inflammation, fracture, or exposed root can cause pain with touch or chewing.
🐱 In cats
Cats often have tooth resorptive lesions and hide pain, so signs may be subtle.
🐶 In dogs
Dogs commonly have periodontal inflammation related to periodontal disease and tartar, with eating changes or chewing on one side.
