What this symptom means clinically
Neutrophils are key innate immune cells for fighting bacteria and responding quickly to infection. Neutropenia means the total number of circulating neutrophils is below normal, potentially from reduced bone marrow production or abnormal peripheral destruction or distribution. Clinically, it reflects reduced immune defense and is often detected as an abnormal blood cell count.
